Match report The seconds suffered the third defeat of the season, just falling short of the 234 needed for victory. Although, the defeat was due to a few reasons, having only 10 players (one of which was 13 year old), the worst bowling performance of the season, an error from the captain and suffering five LBW decisions.
Tony S actually won the toss and put Witney in to bat. On a good batting wicket and quick outfield the Witney openers found scoring runs easy and were averaging five an over, it wasn't until the 21st over that the break through was made. A few half chances were created but not taken but at least the run rate was slowed. However, the last 10 overs went for 60, this was when a bowling changed should have happened but didn't, which meant Witney finished on 234.
In reply a good start was required and this was achieved until Buddika S, after hitting four fours, called for a suicidal run, was sent back but didn't make it. Steve H came and went in two balls. Tony S and Inam (Quas) E continued to score at five over and at drinks we were 126 for 2 off 23 overs. Tony S went shortly after drinks but when Inam E. went we lost three wickets for three runs including a first baller for Stuart S. But some big hitting from Derek P and assured batting from Abhay (Usm) Gupta kept us when touching distance. But just when to looked like we were going to get a close draw the LBW decision ended any hope with four overs to go. That extra man would have made the difference!!
