Great & Little Tew 4 v Kimble Cricket Club Second XI on Sat 11 Jul 2015 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Our longest away trip saw us visit top of the table Great Tew 4s, who knowing the importance of the game drafted in some help, see if you can spot who they might be from the scorecard! but back to the game. As reported last week Mo M accompanied Tony S to the middle for the toss, guess what same result, Mo called wrong and we were batting first again. But as 1 o'clock approached we were missing our number 1 and 3 batsmen so a change to the batting order was required with Pete D finding himself opening. The 2 missing batsmen duly arrived just after 1.
On a dry wicket with some bounce Tony S (20) and Pete D (15), helped by some extras, scored at 4 an over until both went caught in the slips in the 11th and 12th over. This brought the 2 latecomers together, although not in much danger found scoring difficult, with Arun S (32 retired hurt) having a period of facing 20 balls with out scoring. Arun S and Ali W took the score to just past the 100 mark when Ali W (19) was caught and bowled, in came 4 and out Alex R (4). First ball for 4 second ball bowled. Arun S and Jordan P (17) continued the score ticking over until Arun S collapsed whilst going for a run, pulling his calf again. He couldn't continue and was helped off the pitch, which allowed Tony S to promote John D (26) to push the score along, which he did, hitting 2 big sixes only to be caught going for a third. This brought in Usman K (9) for his Kimble league debut following a long drawn out transfer from Dinton CC. The score was taken over the 200 mark thanks to Arul N (34 no) whose total included 2 sixes and 4 fours off just 17 balls and there was just another time for Nathan P (4 no) to hit the last ball of the innings for 4, for Kimble to close on 209 for 8.
In reply we could not have asked for a better start with Nathan P striking with his second ball, he continued to ball tightly and finished his first spell with 2 for 12 off 6 overs, his second wicket a thin edge to the keeper, where Alex R held on for a routine catch. At the other end John D bowled quick but didn't cause the openers any problems. Tew were 13 for 2 in the fifth over but they now had not your typical Division 9 batsmen at the crease and after a slow start the pair started to score with ease and on a fast out field anything that beat the fielders was four. Usman K and Mo M were given a couple of overs each to see what they could do then Arul N and Jordan P tried but the Tew pair put on 150 in 28 overs to basically take the game away from Kimble. The partnership was eventually broken when Usman Z, in his second spell, forced the Tew batsman to drive to cover where the catch was taken by Tony S. Pete D was introduced to the attack and after being hit for 3 fours in succession, answered by bowling the Tew centurion, Parker. Usman picked up his second wicket, a catch this time from Arul N but it wasn't enough as Tew won with 5 overs to spare. A positive from the day was the lack of wides bowled, well done bowlers. Thanks again to James W for fielding in the place of Arun S, after not touching the ball for a long period he was soon called upon to stop the wayward leg side balls missed by Alex R.
Whilst waiting to bat Alex R was delighted to receive birthday presents in the form of a bunch of flowers and a cuddly bear from Pete D, I'm sure I heard him say that they would look nice in his bedroom. He also received a nice sponge cake from Justine, but there wasn't enough time to sample it.
As for the cricket lets hope we can get back to winning ways next week.
