Match report The 2s got back to winning ways with a 9 wicket victory over Kingston Baggies 2s, all due to Derek P returning after injury or so he said. This week Tony S won the toss and decided to have a bowl against a Baggies side that included a number of youngsters. On a good batting wicket (the best they have played on this season said the Baggies captain) they made steady progress against the bowling of Nathan P and Arul N. Nathan unable to repeat the performance of last week and so it was left to Arul to take the first couple of wickets in the tenth and sixteenth over. Arul finishing his 10 over spell with 3 for 21, whereas Nathan finished his spell with none for 21. Both bowlers were replaced with bowlers with experience (old timers) in the shape of Derek P and Mark T and it was Mark who removed the impressive Baggies young opener for 33 with the help of a Derek who took the catch at fly gulley. Mark T proving the most expensive of the bowlers. Derek bowled steadily and picked up his first wicket when Tony S took another stunning catch at mid off, leaping like a salmon to pluck the ball one handed out of the sky. It was now a case of would we bowl them out and what would we be chasing as the Baggies did not look like posting a competitive score. Derek picked up two more wickets, Alex R taking a good catch behind to dismiss the County player (it was a girl) who faced 36 balls for her 2 runs. Derek finishing with 3 for 25 off 11. Matthew T replaced his Dad from the Cornfield End and bowled impressively, picking up a wicket in his 5 overs that only went for 8 runs and there was still time for Nathan P to come back and take the last wicket to dismiss the Baggies for 120. The fielding was good this week but there was still the odd moment such as Nathan P using his face to field the ball and Arul N chasing the ball to the boundary only to dive over the rope completely missing the ball. The only blot on the day was a dropped catch and a missed run out by Derek P when he failed to gather the ball from Jordan P with the batsmen half way down the wicket. When faced with another run out chance Jordan thought I will just aim at the stumps this time which he did, running out the youngster who failed to run his bat in.

After tea Ali W (52 not out) and Tony S (29) set about getting the required runs. They put on 45 before Tony S missed a straight one and was LBW. With a number of batsman missing this week Jordan P was promoted to number 3 and used the opportunity to get a few runs and a not out. Ali W, after a slow start, started to score more freely including 3 fours in a row off the young leg spinner, aided by a number of wides and no balls Kimble progressed to the require total. Ali W was able to bring up his 50 just before the winning runs were achieved, which were in the form of four byes. Ali finishing unbeaten on 52 and Jordan on 16. The victory moves the 2s up to third in the table.
