Thame Town 3 v Kimble Cricket Club Second XI on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Won by 38 runs

Match report The 2’s made it three wins in a row when they ground out a result at Thame 3’s. For the first time this season there was a surplus of players, Stuart S was back from his stint with the 1’s and it also meant Bob Whitehead was able to stand in as umpire as regular Colin D was on tea duty at the 1’s.
As usual Tony S lost the toss and we were batting first again. Ali W and Arun S, back from injury but not for long, opened the batting on a slow wicket which coupled with a slow outfield made scoring difficult, although we started at 3 an over this was to slow down. Arun S (7) couldn’t get a bat on the ball and then when he set off for a run he tweaked his calf again and was out shortly afterwards. Tony S (11) found scoring difficult but after hitting a couple of boundaries was out LBW for the third week running. Is he the new Shane Watson?
Buddika S (21) joined Ali W and started to quicken the scoring until he was out just as he was getting going. Pete D (34) was the next in with the score on 81 but off 26 overs, so a score of 150 was the minimum we wanted. Then just after Ali W (55) had reached his 50, he also pulled up with an injured calf and had to retire hurt. Jordan P (1) was then needlessly run out answering a call from Pete D for a run that was never there. He was followed quickly by Alex R (4), another four and out performance. We were now 128 for 5, 6 with Ali W off, and only 8 overs left. But Stuart S (25) and Pete D put on 39 in 6 overs to take us to 167, there was then a rush of wickets as Usman K (0), Pete D (34) and Mo M (1) all fell to leave the innings closed on 177 for 9, Nathan P not out 4.

During the tea break following agreement with the Thame captain, Bob W replaced Ali W on the field and Ali W was now the umpire. The 2’s now had to bowl Thame out to get the 25 points on a wicket not offering a great deal to the bowlers. Stuart S opened the bowling and gave nothing away, beating the bat on a number of occasions, finally getting the edge only for Alex R to put it down. It was then that Tony S noticed that the ball wasn’t a regulation Cherwell League ball, so Thame went away to find the correct one while we continued with the old one. This meant that Mo M was given the new new ball at the other end. Once again he bowled tightly and was rewarded with a wicket when Jordan P took a great catch at mid off running in and taking the ball just off the ground. Stuart S then picked up a wicket thanks to a catch at square leg from Usman K. Nathan P then replaced Mo M and struck twice in his first over, the first a slow motion catch to Bob W at gulley and then bowling the new batsman first ball.
Thame then started to build an innings and pushed the score from 29 to 82, which included a dropped chance from Nathan P off his brother’s bowling, until Usman K bowled the Thame number 3 who was looking solid. The fielding had been good but the best was yet to come as Jordan P took his first wicket when Bob W took a flying one handed catch at mid wicket to dismiss Thame’s top scorer Anderson. If it wasn’t bad enough with Ali W forced off, Arun S only able to field in the slips, Pete D then dived and landed on his bad wrist, which as he said he need to get looked at but he was able to continue but it must have affected his bowling as he went for 18 off his 3 overs! We now needed 4 wickets with 10 overs remaining. Jordan P took his second wicket when Usman K took his second catch. Things were getting tight as the Thame captain was defending and looking to take the strike when he could but when he steered Stuart S straight to Nathan P, one wicket was needed with 3 overs remaining. This was duly taken as Buddika S took the catch at gulley off Nathan P.
A great victory that sets up next week against Abingdon Vale, although we are missing a few players a victory is still possible.
