Kimble Cricket Club Second XI v Abingdon Vale 4 on Sat 08 Aug 2015 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Won by 7 Wickets
Match report
The seconds finished off their league games with a win over Abingdon Vale 4. Stand in skipper Stuart S had to make 5 changes to the team that beat Thame 3 the previous week. Derek P, Niron J, Quasim Z, Mark and Matthew Travers were welcomed into the team with Tony S and Ali W on holiday and Pete D, Jordan and Nathan Price all on first team duties.
Stuart won the toss and choose to bowl with a flip of the coin that Kimble’s chief tosser would have been proud of.
Stuart S opened the bowling with yet another maiden and Mo M kept things tight at the other end with his tricky pace confusing Abingdon’s opening pair. Stuart found the edge a number of times only for the ball to find its way to the boundary, although Arun S was unable to hold on to one of the edges at first slip. The break through came in the 7th over when Abingdon batsman tried to sneak a single whilst the ball was being returned to Stuart. Matthew T threw the ball back to Stuart which went into the sun and dropped short and rolled past Stuart, the Abingdon batsmen tried to run and Quasim Z picked the ball up and threw it to Alex who completed the run out. Everyone said it’s a dead ball but the Abingdon player who was umpiring said it was out. Stuart and Mo kept the score down and Mo was unlucky not to take a wicket during his spell. Stuart then bowled the other opener with the help of an inside edge.
Mark T and Derek P were then introduced to the attack. Derek found it hard to get his length right during his first two overs, Mark T then made the break through with the batsman picking out Quasim, which brought an early drinks break with the score 69-3. Mark then went for 5 runs in his next three overs but it was Derek at the other end who after finding his length took the wicket of B Ramsundhar, who was starting to play his shots only to pick out Matthew Travers. Derek took 3 wickets in his last two overs finishing with figures of 4-18 off 7 overs with the score now 79-7. Mark T was replaced by Usman K who took two wickets in his first over, his double wicket maiden was only spoiled by a wide with his second ball. With the score 80-9 Stuart replaced Derek and finished the innings 3 balls in to his over. Abingdon finished on 80 in 30.3 overs. It was a very good fielding performance and everyone bowled well.
After tea Arun S (1) and Buddika S (17) started the run chase and Buddika started to find the boundary regularly. Arun was the first wicket to fall when the ball hit him on the pad and ballooned up and hit the stumps. Buddika was bowled the next over swinging across the line after finding the boundary a few balls before with the score 19-2. Quasim (23) looked in good form despite it being the first game he was available for. Alex (33*) got off the mark with a six, with his Teddy watching through the changing room window. Quasim and Alex batted out the next ten overs with a partnership of 51 before Quasim was bowled by a ball that didn’t bounce. Nixon (0*) saw off the three ball remains of the over and left it to Alex finish off the game with the help of a few wides.
It was good to finish off the league season with another win, which at the time of writing put us top of the league, so if the results go right next week we should get promoted. We have a warm up friendly next week against Stokenchurch before we take on Dinton 3 in the Division 9 Cup on the 22nd August.
