Match report The 2s over came Dinton 3s in the first round of the Division 9 cup but it could have been so different. On a hot sunny day Tony S won the toss and decided to bat with the aim of setting a target for Dinton to chase. But after 9 overs it was a question of would we reach 50, as we collapsed to 38 for 6, which included a hat trick for Dinton’s youngster Shah. Umpire Colin D commenting that the bowler was doing nothing with the ball, our batsman just missed it. But with plenty of overs left Arun S and Usman K started to rebuild the innings, playing sensibly and taking advantage of Dinton’s second-string bowlers. The two put on 105 in 26 overs to give us a target to ball at. After Arun S (37) was out Arul N (41 not out) along with Usman K (73 not out) put on 78 off the last 11 overs to set Dinton a target of 222 to win. Congratulations to Usman for scoring his first senior 50, after getting through the nervous forties, he was able to relax after securing that 50.

Now we had a target to bowl at, John D (1 for 14) and Arul N (2 for 9) put the pressure on to stop Dinton getting off to a fast start. Arul picking up the first two wickets, the second caught behind by Tony S off a nick that was probably heard in Dinton but not by the batsman apparently! Dinton’s third pair started to build a partnership, although not threatening the run rate Tony S turned to Pete D (3 for 45), who replaced Quasim Z (0 for 18), and in his first over he made the breakthrough. Then in came Adeel, who had to go early so wasn’t going to hang around. In one over there was missed stumping and a dropped catch by Tony S plus some streaky shots but luckily as he had to go he ran himself out in the next over. This brought in Syed the only person who could potentially get the runs and with Flint they put on 42 in 6 overs before Usman K (2 for 27) replaced Derek P (0 for 43) and bowled Flint with his first ball. Once John D caught Syed on the boundary, Dinton’s run chase was over and it was left to John D to take the last wicket and bowl Dinton out for 165 and put the 2s in to the next round.

Also, just to add Usman’s day his Mum was giving him advise on how to bowl, much to his embarrassment.
