Match report The grey clouds gathered over Kimble for their game against Brackley, and they gradually got greyer as Kimble’s performance faded into the darkness.
Dan strode out for the toss hoping to win it and bowl first, but could only muster a dejected looking drag of the heels on the way back as he declared Kimble would be batting first on a damp pitch in overcast conditions.
Dan and Ali went out to face the opening bowlers who bowled very tightly, giving nothing for the Kimble batsmen to hit. The score ticked over slowly, and this pressure soon told. Ali played a delightful looking flick into the leg side, only to realise he had missed it as his leg stump went cart wheeling out the ground.
Dan soon followed after failing to break the shackles, which caused an embarrassing collapse, leaving Kimble on the ropes. No doubt the fans in the top corner would have been mumbling under their breath as they saw one batsmen quickly followed by another... and another... and another.
A brief bit of resistance allowed Kimble to dream of a batting point, but those dreams were quickly dashed, as the final wicket fell with the score on 98. Another failed batting attempt, and one that should prompt the batsmen to think long and hard about how they are going to rectify the situation.
98 was never going to be enough to win the game, but they did manage to claim 3 wickets to give them some points. As the players trudged off the pitch after another defeat, the grey clouds remained, and will remain unless performances improve quickly.
The captain will have to think long and hard about who he selects for next week’s must win bottom of the table clash against Dinton 2nd’s. It would help if he had as many players to choose from as possible. So if you would like to make yourself available rather than watching the side sit bottom of the league, and allowing the 2nd team to struggle for players each week when in fact they perform well when allowed, it would be much appreciated.
