Kimble Cricket Club Second XI v Tiddington 3 on Sat 02 Jul 2016 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
A great all round performance culminating in a superb innings by Nathan P (36 no) to win us the game on the very last ball. The day started with Tony S losing the toss, which was okay as Tiddington decided to bat, so at one o'clock Kimble took to the field with eight. Tony was aware that Matt T would be late but as for Ali W and Mo, well both eventually arrived, Mo only waking up at five to one. Stuart S (4 for 32) and Mark T both bowled well restricting the opening batsmen to boundaries until Stuart S made the break through in the ninth over. Two overs later the second wicket arrived following an inspired fielding change when Tony S moved Matt T from mid wicket to deep point. The Tiddington batsman slashed the ball to gulley where Tony S got both hands to it but could only deflect the ball up where the alert Matt T took a good diving catch. There then followed a rain break, during which the moon appeared briefly, that reduced the game to 39 overs each. The Tiddington captain Matt W was the only batsman who looked capable of scoring any runs as wickets tumbled around him, Arul N (2 for 24) bowling one and then having the second brilliantly caught in the slips by Mark T. It wasn't Nathan P's day with the ball but his day was to get better. Tony S then had to leave the field to assess the damage to his eye after the ball popped up and caught him on the eye lid knocking his contact lense out in the process so he missed the two catches in Mo's (2 for 17) first over, one from Jordon P to remove the dangerous M Weeks and a second for Matt T right on the boundary. Tony S returned with five overs to go and brought back Stuart S to mop up the tail. Tiddington scoring 151 from their 39 overs.
During the tea interval there was another spell of rain and so when Tony S returned from getting another contact lense Kimble's overs had been reduced to 30. The Kimble reply started steadily with Ali W (14) and Arun S (9) then Arun went in the fifth over. Tony S (18) joined Ali W who after a quick run tweaked his ham string and so left the field, which brought in Jordan P (28). Although, scoring was okay Kimble were still behind the run rate, so with 10 overs to go 63 was still needed. When Alex R (15) and Stuart S (3) went in quick succession a win was looking less likely especially when Arul N (6) couldn't put bat to ball. Then with 36 needed off the last four Nathan P (36 not out) took over hitting 3 sixes and running well to get Kimble needing 12 from the last over. Arul went first ball, which brought in Mo M (3 not out) who got Nathan P on strike. The penultimate ball was hit for 6 to bring the scores level, there was a brief discussion between Mo and Nathan as Tiddington brought all the players in to stop the single. The ball was bowled, not cleanly hit, went to a fielder, the batsman ran, the fielder took an age to get the ball to the bowler for an easy run out but it was fumbled and Nathan P got home. Arun S, the square leg umpire, got carried away as he dashed over to Nathan to congratulate him. As I said at the start a terrific victory and all round performance, especially Alex R behind the stumps. Thanks to Gary R for umpiring and to Derek P for scoring.
