Bledlow Ridge v Kimble Cricket Club First XI on Sat 17 Jun 2017 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Won
Match report
A tremendous team performance got Kimble their second victory of the season at a sizzling hot Bledlow Ridge. The players gradually arrived at the ground, spirits still high after some poor form, with Sam struggling to walk after his heavy night out in London. It showed as we took to the field after Bradley won the toss yet again, much to the frustration of many of the team. Sam and Brad didn’t bowl tight enough, with Sam spraying the ball left right and rarely centre. A double bowling change proved key as John Dumbarton and Usman took wickets. John bowled exceptionally well in the heat and so from 60-0 we brought it back nicely to 80-4. Wickets came at regular intervals but some late runs from Bledlow’s lower order meant we were chasing a par score of 212.
After a cheeky tea Ali and Pete strode out to the crease with authority and got us off to a very solid start. After Pete was out Bradley and Ali continued to score freely, with Ali reaching his first 50 of the season. After his dismissal runs kept coming as Rossy looked in fine touch before getting himself out again with a nasty swipe across the line. At this point the run rate was beginning to increase, but we still felt we were in the hunt. Bradley continued to knock the ball around to get to his 50, as the middle order pushed on to edge us closer to victory. However, a mini collapse looked like we would have to settle for the draw as we needed 19 off the last over. Yet there was hope and then further hope as beamers came streaming out of the bowlers hand as Stu swatted them away for 4s and 6s in the last over. His 21 came off only 10 balls. With 2 runs to win Sam smeared one into the leg side as he finally shifted his hangover to send the Kimble players wild. Yet, the away fans refused to get carried away as they calmly packed away their picnic as they knew there is still a long way in the season to go.
