Match report A disappointing loss to Banbury 5s on Saturday when after a poor start we put ourselves in a position to win. With the game switched to the Banbury XX ground Tony S won the toss and decided to have a bowl on a green wicket. In windy conditions that saw the sight screens being blown over and the bails coming off numerous times, all the bowlers bowled well without getting the wickets their bowling deserved. As it was they restricted Banbury to three and over, 154. Nathan P taking 3 for 36 ably supported by Raja 2 for 31 and Usman R 0 for 29. The innings finished with Martin L running out the Banbury batsman with a direct hit.
The total of 154 was a getable figure especially on the large ground with a flat out field. But the innings didn't start well, after Arun S (1) took a single from the first over he was bowled second ball of the following over as was Haris (0). So there we were 2 for 2 off 2. Tony S (35) and Usman R (55) then steady the ship and built a partnership against tight accurate bowling, taking singles and hitting the odd boundary, but averaging the three an over needed. Tony S was out with the score on 89. Martin L (6) soon followed as did Raja (12) hitting three boundaries and then bowled going for another. With Nathan P (0) going for a duck it was down to Usman R to see us home but when he was out after scoring his maiden half century, the last pair needed to score 25 runs, which turned out to be too many. Only having 10 men probably played a factor both in the field and in the batting, as did the qualified umpire turning down a plum LBW, so we need to get 11 out each week.
