Match report With the skipper away tapping his sandals to the sound of ELO we crossed the county border to Oxfordshire in hope and expectation following last weeks fine performance. Under Mr Blue Sky I called tails (Alex please note) and won the toss and we fielded.
The 2nd ball of the game summed up our performance. Their captain drove at a half volley from Nathan and as I moved to my left I had a decision to make. Do I bring in their no 3 who may be a better batsman or do I miss the chance. The decision was taken out of my hands, as was the ball, as it dropped to the floor. I did however stop a four but as the game unfolded it was of little consequence. Their no 3 came in soon anyway and top scored with 80. We missed him several times via a run out, dropped catches and a stumping.
It was during his innings that we discovered that the pitch was only 21 yards long. Perhaps we can claim a rematch?
We did not bowl well as a unit, with the exception of Nathan, which was disappointing following last weeks performance.
Following a tea less tea (there was no electricity) we set off in chase of their score to win the game. Our batting followed our fielding performance and a steady stream of wickets culminated in the game being over soon after drinks with us being out for 85. We were beaten by a better side.
What will next week bring?
Hopefully a return to our form against Tiddington?
Will there be a sequel to the Whattsapp literary classic by our own future PC Pete: “Has anyone seen by shirt? It’s ok it is in my bag”?
I was going to send a Whatsapp reply to tell him to stick to his future day job but then again……
