Match was Abandoned

Match report We knew the rain was coming but no-one knew when and as it turned out it arrived just after the start of the Oxford innings and that was it match abandoned. But this was after another solid batting display from Kimble. Tony S won the toss and decided to bat, the start was delayed slightly due to a rain shower but the wicket was dry. Arun S and Tony S opened the batting and were progressing nicely until Arun S (8) had to retire due to a leg injury. This meant an early visit to the wicket for the out of form Buddika S (2) and things didn't not improve, bowled off his pad from a ball that would have missed the leg stump by a long way. Usman R (0) was bowled by a good ball that left him. So suddenly we were 25 for 2 or 3 if you count the retirement. But in came Ali W to steady the ship and with Tony S start to rebuild the innings, no energetic running although there were a couple of three's run, together they put on 130 both reaching their 50's. Ali W went for 61, Martin L came in and hit a quick fire 17 but not as quick as Raja's 44. Meanwhile Tony S was still there and with the sideline worried that he might declare, they told him what his score was, 16 needed off five, fortunately the bowling allowed him to get the runs required and 27 years after his last century he got his first Cherwell League 100. With Raja hitting 20 off the 44th over that was enough and so Tony declared after 44 overs.
The rain started as we walked out for the start of the Oxford innings and never stopped. Mark T managed to pick up an wicket but that was that and the game was abandoned.
