Kimble Cricket Club Second XI v Banbury 5 on Sat 12 Aug 2017 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Won by 169 runs.
Match report
With Banbury 5s deciding to play this week it was important that the 2s got a win and the 25 points. Tony S lost the toss and Kimble were asked to bat. So Arun S (7), back after his little outing with the 1s last week, and Tony S (10) got the innings started. Both went cheaply as did Usman (10), but then came a stand of 123 between Ateeq (104), his third ton for Kimble, and Ali W (40 retired hurt). Ateeq again showed his strength hitting 4 sixes. But once Ali W decided to retire things went pear shaped, Babar P run out without facing, Ranesh S (we hadn't seen him for long time) bowled for 0. Raja hit a brisk 16 but no sixes, which was a wasted opportunity with Jon Tizzard away at the moment. Qasim A and Mark T saw out the overs to leave Kimble on 230 for 8.
Arun's wife served up some wonderful samosas for tea which seemed to inspire Raja, more later. So Kimble took the field with probably the strongest bowling attack the 2s had had for a very long time. Raza S ( 0 for 22) opened up and bowled with his usual accuracy but no luck whilst Raja (4 for 8) could do no wrong. Fuelled by the samosas he took 4 wickets in his first 3 overs for no runs. So with Banbury 10 for 4 after eight overs, any chance they had of winning was over. A double bowling change saw Babar P (2 for 15) and Ranesh S (2 for 4) continue the tight bowling with both picking up 2 wickets. After Ranesh decided he was too tired after his 5 overs, Qasim A picked up a wicket, throw in a run out from Ateeq and that was it. Banbury all out for 61.
