Tiddington 3 v Kimble Cricket Club Second XI on Sat 19 Aug 2017 at 13:00
Kimble Cricket Club Lost
Match report
With the skipper away on a walking holiday 500 miles from home in his tartan sandals, the seconds headed to Great Haseley to take on Tiddington 3rds looking for their second double of the season. Mind you the way we played a few of us may have already have had a double or two. After winning the toss on a damp wicket, the famous words of the Kimble first team skipper echoed around the ground: We will bowl. Although the game started at 1pm we started to bowl properly about 3pm having spent the first couple of hours bowling a selection of wides, no balls and wide down the leg side. The bowling was taking small lumps out of the damp pitch the only problem was it was the one the ball was landing on but not the one we were playing on. The one which we were playing on was unmarked and drying up nicely when it was to be our turn to bat. Was this a cunning plan? One or two chances came and went as did Buddika for a short while when he cut his finger and we were left chasing 170+ which was higher than it should have been. Raja thought he bowled from the wrong end but as he bowled at both ends I just smiled. Rumour has it Bruce Springsteen is going to bring out a remix to Dancing in the Dark and call it “Bowling in the dark” as we could have not done any worse if it had been dark.
After a solid start (40 for 0), their skipper asked Wood to bowl. He was obviously impressed by the earlier Kimble bowlers as his opening over consisted of wides and a beamer. His second and subsequent overs changed the game. From a promising position we produced a spell of binary numbers batting and were soon facing defeat. Wood bowled and it was like a boxing referee during a knockout: 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5, 6, 7, 8. Was he going to get all 10. Mo strode to the wicket and after striking the ball to all parts of the ground within two yards of his bat, he put his best foot forward and Secretary Bob gave him out LBW. There were boos all around the ground as it was not Wood who had taken the wicket. Perhaps they should have called Mo back or withdrawn the appeal but it was not to be. It was not long before normal service was resumed as Wood bowled Ranesh to finish with 9 wickets. Only three players reached double figures: Arun with a 3 0 blind 30. Ranesh with a University (22) and Martin with a Maggies Den no 10.
America got all excited about a solar eclipse, if they had come to Great Haseley a few days earlier they could have seen an eclipse of Kimble. Lets hope, like America, they have to wait another 100 years for another one.
We returned to Kimble to see the first team bat out for a draw and finished the evening at the Whitehead and Young Bingo Benefit evening.
