Kimble Cricket Club Sunday XI v Rivets on Sun 02 Jul 2017 at 13:30
Kimble Cricket Club Won

Match report Somethings in the world never change. Monday is followed by Tuesday. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Leeds United always sack a minimum of two managers a season. Brad always wins the toss.
Sunday was no different as Brad won the toss but he said words that Jack Foster has never heard before “We’ll bat”. These words went viral. The Internet went into meltdown. Sky sports sources reported the news but could find no one to confirm the news. Cricket had been rocked to its foundations.
Rivets put their best fielding foot forward and entered the field of play. News of batting first had obviously had an adverse affect on the early Kimble batsmen as wickets were lost to the Rivets opening bowlers who bowled gentle half volleys. At the fall of the third wicket Captain Brad was seen putting his pads on. This is the very man who last week quoted “I am going to bat no11 and have ham sandwiches for tea”. Apparently he is not partial to a chicken curry. The Rivets boys thought how thoughtful of him to put his pads on so his trousers did not get dirty which would mean less washing for his mum. At the fall of the 4th wicket he came into bat. We let him set his own field and he proceeded to continually hit the ball straight at extra cover. At one stage he spotted a gap above his left ankle and drove the ball straight into his own leg.
After 20 overs, we had the customary Rivets cigarette break and the air changed with the arrival of the Bishop at the wicket. Brad and the Bishop (appropriate for a Sunday) batted well with the Bishop giving a little sermon to Brad between overs. Brad was not impressed when he was called for 2 2’s in one over. Rivets started to take wickets again and Mo came out with his bat to face the hat trick ball. Not sure why he brought his bat as he let the first one go and used his pads for the second one. Umpire John, with a smile, gave him out. The last over of the innings was bowled by Alex who asked half way through the over “May I have taller people on the boundary”? Was this to be the pivotal over of the game, only time would tell.
After a short cigarette break Rivets set off in chase of 198 to win. After a steady start, Kimble changed their tactics and started to bowl long hops and grass cutters. Deliveries that over the years have got many a good and bad Rivets player out. Just as we were starting to recover, someone opened the window to the kitchen and the smell of curry wafted over the pitch. Now, to anyone from Luton it is a sign that dinner is ready and you have to stop playing cricket. One after another the batsmen, obviously brought up correctly and a credit to their parents, failed to trouble the scorers at the time, Colin and T, who were having a lovely chat in the afternoon sun, and returned to the pavilion as quickly as they left it. As the game was coming to an end, Brad brought Pete on to finish the game as Nathan was starving. After a couple of looseners he bowled his quicker ball and with his deadly accuracy found the middle of Raja’s swinging bat. The ball sailed into the air and kept going and going. Donald Trump panicked as he thought that North Korea had launched another nuclear missile and was ready to press the button. Astronomers worldwide were fascinated by this UFO and there have been no reports as yet that it has landed. Word has it that it is on its second orbit of the earth. After Raja’s untimely dismissal, Ben and the Bishop bowled the final two overs and Kimble won by 8 runs.
We all retired to the bar to enjoy the curry and in Brad’s case his Ham sandwiches.
Kimble remain unbeaten on a Sunday.
Rivets lost their first game since 18th September 2016. A very impressive unbeaten run of 9 ½ months.
One question remains unanswered. Was Alex a plant? The 15 runs off his one (and last ) over cost us the game as we only lost by 8 runs.
